Experience the sights, sounds and smells of the past as you immerse yourself in history and discover how everyday objects were crafted by hand. From the sourcing of raw materials to the final product, see how skilled artisans worked their magic to create beautiful and functional objects that have stood the test of time.

On July 22:

• Mill about with Simone Mauser as she shares the history and techniques of hat making.

• Get rolling with wheelwright Warren Sveum.

• Lumber over to the carpentry shop for a woodworking demonstration with Greg Mausser.

• Try your hand at spinning wool using a wheel with Kris Elis.

About the Location

Located on the former estate of Nelson Dewey, Wisconsin’s first governor, Stonefield explores Wisconsin at the beginning of the 20th century when innovative ideas and advances in technology helped the state transform into “America’s Dairyland” and an agricultural superpower. The site includes Dewey’s home site, the Stonefield Village, the State Agricultural Museum, and a 1901 Progressive Farmhouse. Together, these buildings help tell the story of the history of how Wisconsin transitioned from a society powered by manual labor and horses into one powered by machines.
